The Importance of Grounding: A Personal and Client-Based Perspective

Grounding is a concept I feel is often under emphasized in the spiritual world. While there is plenty of discussion around chakras, yin and yang energies, grounding deserves equal attention. Two key incidents—one from my life and another from a client's—pushed me to explore grounding deeply and stop ignoring it. That’s why I’m writing this blog.
🧿 What My Clients Taught Me About Grounding
As a tarot reader and healer, many clients come to me seeking clarity on why their goals or dreams aren't manifesting. A recurring theme in my readings is the lack of grounding. Further conversation often reveals they are living too much in their heads. Constant phone calls, social media exposure, and daily stressors result in absorbing external energies—others' beliefs, fears, and insecurities.
When you're not grounded, you're not living your life; you're reacting to energies that aren't even yours. But when you ground yourself, you return to your true self—your thoughts, your energy, your path.
💫 My Story: How Grounding Changed Everything
As a highly sensitive person (HSP), I spent years stuck in my mind. I had goals and dreams, but they never materialized. Why? Because I wasn’t grounded. I couldn’t grasp the realities of life or plan effectively. Execution was a struggle. I would dream big but act small. It took me over five years to ground myself, face reality, and begin to truly accept life as it is.
So yes—grounding is essential, especially in today’s chaotic world.
🌎 So, What Is Grounding?
Grounding is the practice of bringing your awareness back to the present moment—back to your body and back to the earth. It’s like returning home after being scattered in a thousand directions.
Imagine this: You’re overwhelmed, and you step barefoot onto grass or hold a warm mug with both hands. You breathe deeply. Suddenly, you feel present. That is grounding.
❌ What Happens When You’re Not Grounded?
You overthink everything
You feel anxious, unsettled, or jumpy
You struggle to concentrate or complete tasks
You lose yourself in daydreams or future worries
You feel emotionally numb or disconnected from your body
It’s like having your head in the clouds with no feet on the ground.
🌱 Two Types of Grounding
Grounding that life does to you Life grounds you through challenges, often through failure. These moments reveal misaligned goals rooted in trauma or influence. Failure becomes your teacher. For me, Maa Kali became a guiding light during this phase. Worship her if you’re seeking clarity.
Grounding through ritualsThis is for when your core is intact but clouded. Rituals help clear the mental dust and restore your clarity.
🔁 Rituals to Ground Yourself
Walk barefoot on the earth – Grass, soil, or sand all work wonders.
Practice deep breathing – Inhale slowly, exhale even slower for 2 minutes.
Touch something real – A stone, leaf, or warm mug; focus on its texture.
Eat mindfully – Take one meal without distractions. Chew slowly, savor it.
Move your body – Dance, stretch, shake, and let your energy settle.
Say grounding affirmations – Try: "I am here. I am safe. I am supported."
Visualize roots from your feet – Imagine them reaching deep into the earth.
You don’t need to do all of these—just pick one that resonates with you today.
